Our studio staff offers media training and TV production workshops and courses for professionals and students. Classes are taught by award-winning professionals working in the field of broadcasting, theatre, and communications. Our educational opportunities range from video production classes to "on-camera" media training and skill-based workshops.

SUMMER SUMMER SESSION 2012

Undergraduate television production courses are offered thorugh the Office of Summer Session - New Brunswick. Standard tuition and fees apply.

Both are hybrid courses with eCollege components. Courses are offered on specified Fridays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Rutgers iTV Studio in Piscataway.

TELEVISION BOOTCAMP

  Looking for that unique opportunity to give you the edge in your television career? Then enroll today in one of our Television Bootcamp courses!    This series of interactive hands-on courses offer basic training for aspiring and experienced actors, reporters, journalists and television professionals.  These noncredit, certificate courses offer high-end production values and a professional crew working with you to help develop and refine your technical and creative skills .

SUMMER  2012 COURSES

ACTING FOR TV is for working or aspiring actors in the craft of “acting for television”.  Taught by A.C. Weary a director of commercials, soaps, sitcoms, documentary films and Off Broadway theatre, this introductory class will provide insight, critiques, coaching and an excellent opportunity to hone your craft.   Each student will be cast in a simple dramatic/soap or comedic/sitcom scene with a full professional studio production crew.  Individual DVDs of final performances will be provided.

SPORTS REPORTING IN THE DIGITAL AGE is a comprehensive sports reporting class that will concentrate on writing for newspapers, television, radio, web and all new media.  Bob Glauber, award-winning sports columnist for New York NewsDay and regular contributor on ESPN will teach the class and work on each individual’s writing skills; style, content, and the various delivery methods in the Sports media market.   From interviewing techniques to composition, instructor will help the students improve their journalistic skills as well as hone their “delivery”.   Students will learn about covering “live” sporting events, identifying important stories and  the expanding opportunities for women.  Individual Audio CDs of the radio projects and DVDs of the video assignments will be provided to each student.

MAKEUP 101 FOR TELEVISION AND FILM is an introductory course for aspiring makeup artists, independent film makers, television professionals and on-camera talent.  This course is taught by makeup artist Holland Paley, a leading professional in the broadcast and industrial video field.  Experienced in photo, film and HD video, as well as the expanding fine art of airbrushing, she will teach students the basics of camera ready makeup.  Some simple hands-on demonstrations will be provided for the students.

INTRO TO FIGHTING FOR CAMERA is a course for independent filmmakers, actors, directors and aspiring professionals to demonstrate the basics behind stunts, fights and action choreography for use in television and movie productions.  J. Allen Suddeth  has worked professionally on Broadway andOff-Broadway where he has staged fights for Saturday Night Fever, Jekyll & Hyde, Angels in America, Loot, Saint Joan, A Small Family Business, and Hide and Seek. As a master teacher, Allen has trained actors for The Juilliard School, The Lee Strasberg Institute, and The Stella Adler Conservatory. For television, hehas staged stunts, fights and action sequences for over 750 programs for ABC, CBS, NBC, and HBO. He is the author of Fight Directing for the Theater, published by Heinemann Press. Allen has taught at the National Stage Combat Workshop for many years, and is workshop coordinator for the National Fight Directors Training Program.

INTRO TO LIGHTING FOR TV AND FILM is a basic lighting course for aspiring lighting directors, documentary film makers, videographers, movie and television professionals.  This course is taught by Emmy award-winning lighting director and videographer Pete Troost.  With over 30 years of broadcast experience, he will take the students through the many variables in lighting, both in studio and in the field.  Whether for documentary-style interviews or dramatic scenes, he will demonstrate the tools and skills needed to provide natural, high quality, professional images.
