Courses and Workshops
Our studio staff offers media training and TV production workshops and courses for faculty, staff, students, working journalists and technicians. Classes are taught by award-winning professionals in the fields of broadcasting, theatre, and communications. These educational opportunities range from video production classes to "on-camera" media training and skill-based workshops.
Summer Session Television Production Courses
Undergraduate television production courses are offered through the Office of Summer Session - New Brunswick. Standard tuition and fees apply.
Both are hybrid courses with eCollege components. Courses are offered on specified Fridays from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Rutgers iTV Studio in Piscataway.
80:081:339 TV PRODUCTION STUDIO 3 credit(s)- This class will expose students to the essential roles and functions of television studio production at Rutgers state-of-the-art iTV Studio on the Livingston Campus. Students will complete group projects and receive in-depth training on all aspects of digital television production including: scriptwriting, production planning, camera, audio, studio lighting, directing, producing and more. During each Friday class session,students will work in production teams to complete each others projects. .
80:081:340 TV PRODUCTION FIELD 3 credit(s)- The class will introduce the primary elements of video field production, using professional cameras and audio equipment. Students will be assigned topic areas, and complete an short project which will include scripting, field production, interviewing, on-camera reporting and editing. The course activities are designed to maximize student's hands-on experience. Editing instruction will concentrate on logging, capturing and editing, and will take place in our Apple Final Cut Pro Lab, located at the Public Safety Building.
For nearly fifty years, the award-winning Rutgers iTV Studio has provided training and “behind the scenes” glimpse into the media world through our Media Training program. Sessions can be offered in half-day and full-day formats for individuals and small groups.
